Agency Jota - History Tu, si animo regeris, rex es, si korpore, servus - if spirit governs you, you are king, if body, you are slave. This Latin saying in our logo describes perfectly our philosophy and the way we work - the spirit governs all that we do.Music agency Jota was founded in 1995 as an agency that would operate primarily in the field of cultural activities, mostly (but not exclusively) music. We started out by organizing artistic concerts, always on a lookout for new talents. We chose to promote etno, folk, jazz artists from around the world. In 2005 we took on organization of big events - The festival of cherries, Brda and Wine, May 1 st in Šmartno - events that usually combine some popular music and some superfluous ornaments - determined to raise such events to a higher level. Looking back, we had started gaining experience in 1982 (right, it is the previous century). Some young, wild and rebelious youths gathered in the legendary club 'Strelišče', Shooting range, and organized the very first punk festival in this part of the region. Until mid Nineties we mainly organized punk-rock concerts - NOFX, DOA, Pankrti, Laibac, Firehose, Rich Kids on LSD... In 1995 music agency Jota was founded with radically different agenda. The first major event was the now traditional etno-jazz festival Kontrada that offered some prominent performers like Steve Lacy and Kenny Wheeler. We continued with a string of concerts in CRMK, at a time when its glory was already gone, (Už jesme doma, Judy Moss Quartet, Arhipelag, GMFI, Magnifico),with the concert cyclus - Jazz tris at Nova Gorica Cultural center (Steve Coleman, Nguyen Le, Fuera) and Musicians and audience - on stage together (Tomaž Grom, Zlatko Kaučič, Achille Succi, Glauco Venier) in the Deskle Cultural center (then worker's hostel). There are more than 500 concerts of different genre that saw us as organizers, to name but a few - Laibach, Bavan, Miladojka Youneed, Dordan, Sean Keane Band, Pankrti, Ana pupedan, Big Ben Quartet, Brina, Klapa Kumpanji, ... From 2005 on we concentrate more on tourist activities and promotion of Goriška brda, our region. In the village of Šmartno we manage Hiša kulture and a small museum Briška hiša. On Korada we manage the refuge. All in all, from music to tourism, our activities have expanded, each new venture is an important addition. We work and live according to Jota's motto.
